  • Kolkata: Trinamool Congress’s Bankura MP Arup Chakraborty on Sunday said if people rebelled against doctors, party workers would not be able to help them.

The party’s district brass had organised a protest march from Hindu High School grounds to Machantala on Sunday evening. At the end of it, Chakraborty, referring to protesting doctors at Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital, said: “Many junior doctors are going on trips or visiting home under the guise of a strike. You came to practice medicine, not politics. So maintain normal services. If patients start dying, people from villages will rush to the hospital in groups. Public outrage will ensue, and we won’t be able to handle it.”

Chakraborty added: “Where was CPM when women were being oppressed in Manipur? Today, they are bringing women to the streets, demanding the CM’s resignation. If anyone tries to smear the CM, TMC workers will twist your hands.” The MP also hit out at police, saying: “By allowing meetings and marches, you are aiding the opposition. Our workers are watching everything. Remember, you have to work under state govt.”
