• Mamata govt announces 13% hike in ad-hoc bonus for civic volunteers

  • The West Bengal government on Wednesday announced a 13 per cent hike in ad-hoc bonus of civic volunteers in the state.

    According to the state finance department, last year the civic volunteers received Rs 5,300 as ad-hoc bonus and this year they will get Rs. 6,000 before Durga Puja.

    In a notification issued by the government, it mentioned that civic volunteers of West Bengal police, Kolkata police as well as village police will be entitled to receive the same.

    “The civic volunteers under West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police and the Village Police

    volunteers under West Bengal Police were granted ad-hoc bonus for the year 2022-2023 @ Rs.5,300 /- p., annum vide this Department’s G.O. No. a3(2)-PL/PB/14M-721./2023, dated 04.01.2024 and G. O. No. 44-PLl PB / 14M-03 / 2024, dated 04.01,.2024,” the order stated.

    It further stated, “The Finance Department (Audit Branch) has revised the amount of ad-hoc bonus for the year 2023-2024 @ Rs.6,000/- per annum vide Memo. No. 1220-F(PZ)/FA/O/2M/493/12, dated 07.03.2024. After careful

    consideration of the matter, the undersigned is directed to say that the Governor is pleased to accord approval to the grant of ad-hoc bonus in favour of civic volunteers under both the West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police and the Village Police Volunteers under West Bengal Police @ Rs.6,000/  per annum for the year 2023-2024.”

    Reportedly, the previous order did not include the civic volunteers and village police, as part of those entitled for the ad-hoc bonus. Following an explanation sought by the Home Department, the Finance Department included the names of civic volunteers and village police.
