A five-member CBI team on Thursday visited the RG Kar Medical Hospital’s morgue, following complaints against former principal Sandip Ghosh.
In addition to allegations of financial corruption, the CBI is investigating the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar. Ghosh is being questioned in both cases as he was the hospital’s administrator during the concerned period of time.
He has faced repeated interrogations by the CBI, being questioned for over 100 hours in the past 14 days. Ghosh was summoned to the CGO complex once again on Thursday.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent at RG Kar Hospital. Ali accused Ghosh of various financial irregularities, including medical organic waste corruption, embezzlement of government funds, nepotism, and violations of procurement laws.
The CBI’s visit to the morgue is seen as a significant step in the investigation as it could provide crucial evidence related to the allegations. The agency earlier conducted searches at Ghosh’s residence in Beleghata.
The victim’s mother expressed frustration with the ongoing investigation, stating, “He (Ghosh) should be arrested for keeping me waiting for so long. If I had known, I would have entered (the seminar hall where the victim’s body was found) forcefully with the media and perhaps found more evidence. I have lost my daughter, but if they pass any bill, it may benefit others in the future.”
