  • CPI(M)’s youth wing and junior doctor’s organisation on Thursday filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court challenging Kolkata Police notice disallowing any type of gathering in Kolkata and South 24 Parganas for the next two months.

On Wednesday, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma in a notice prohibited holding rallies, meetings, dharnas, and demonstrations “to ensure prevention of breach of peace and in view of the larger public interest”.

In its petition, DYFI and junior doctors said that if this would be implemented for the next two months then, it is implied that during Puja, people won’t be able to gather to see Durga idols in Kolkata.  The HC has listed the petition for hearing on Friday. ENS
