    Times of India | 16 October 2024
  • Kolkata: Like this year, state govt employees will get a two-week-long puja holiday next year as Durga Puja will start on Sep 27 in 2025.

As Panchami next year is on Saturday (Sep 27), the state govt has plans to introduce the puja holidays from Sep 26. The holidays are likely to be from Sep 26 to Oct 8. Lakshmi puja will be on Oct 6 (Mon). In 2025, the Diwali holidays can be for a week with Kali Puja on Oct 20 (Monday) and Bhai Phonta on Oct 23 (Thu).

However, in 2025, the state employees will lose a number of holidays, starting with Republic Day, which is on a Sunday, followed by Saraswati Puja, which too is on a Sunday (on Feb 2). Even Ram Navami (on Apr 6) and Muharram (on July 6) are on Sundays. Similarly, Id-Ul-Zuha (June 7) and Raksha Bandhan (on Aug 9) are on Saturdays. Dashami will coincide with Gandhiji's birthday on Oct 2.

However, they can plan for weekend trips during Holi (Mar 14) and Independence Day, which are on Fridays.
