  • As the nation celebrates Kojagari Lakshmi Puja, the weather in West Bengal is set to experience a transition. While the monsoon is on its way out, the state will still see some showers in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), scattered light rain is expected in southern West Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday, with coastal and adjoining districts having a higher chance of localised rainfall. However, heavy rain is reportedly unlikely.

A distinct low-pressure area over the South Bay of Bengal will likely cause scattered light to moderate rain over coastal districts. The low pressure will also contribute to slightly increased fog levels in the morning for the next two days.

Kolkata is expected to see light to moderate rain on Wednesday afternoon, with partly cloudy skies and slightly uncomfortable conditions due to the presence of water vapour. At night, temperatures are expected to be around 27.2 degrees Celsius.

Beyond Wednesday and Thursday, the rainfall will significantly reduce, with dry weather expected in western areas from Sunday and Monday. Gangetic Bengal will also experience dry weather starting next week, with early morning fog in “open spaces and rural areas”.

In northern West Bengal, the weather is expected to be mostly clear or partly cloudy, with a slight chance of scattered light rain over hilly areas. Heavy rain is not anticipated in the region.

As the monsoon departs, the weather in West Bengal is expected to become drier and more comfortable. However, the state will still experience some localised showers in the coming days.
