  • A cyclonic storm is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by October 23 and an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, the IMD said on Sunday.

Issuing a heavy rainfall warning along the coastal regions due to an upper air cyclonic circulation that has shifted from the central to the north Andaman Sea, the weather office stated that, “It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23, over east central Bay of Bengal.”

Cyclonic disturbance is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal and affect the Odisha-West Bengal coasts during October 23-25, the weather office said. “Yesterday’s (Saturday’s) cyclonic circulation over central Andaman Sea lay over north Andaman Sea in the early morning (05:30 hours IST) and persisted over the same region in the forenoon (0830 hrs IST) of today, October 20. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours,” read a statement issued by weather department.

Alipore Meteorological Office said that the weather condition will not have much impact in the state, but there will be rain in some parts of south Bengal and coastal districts.
