  • Kolkata: The Progressive Junior Doctors' association (PJDA), a pro-Trinamool organisation announced on Tuesday, said they would lend moral support to the movement by West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF) and demand justice jointly for Abhaya.

The PJDA representatives also echoed the front's allegation that the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Association (WBJDA) that came into being last Saturday was formed with those accused of threat culture at govt medical colleges. The PJDA is mentored by TMC leaders Santanu Sen and Nirmal Maji, according to its representatives.

Rajib Biswas, state president of PJDA and a junior doctor of Diamond Harbour Medical College, said, "From the very first day, we are supporting the movement by junior doctors. We have distanced ourselves from the front because an opposition party is using the movement for their own interests. We condemn the way some junior doctors have been trying to malign the image of health department. Despite some differences, we are supporting the movement by the front, and if they call us to walk with them in protest, we will do so."

A WBJDF functionary said, "If they support our movement, why are they not with us demanding justice together?"

But Biswas refuted the juniors' allegation that the evidence of the crime was wiped out during the vandalism at RG Kar on Aug 14 night. "The probe agency will find it out, and hitherto, this allegation is baseless." He added, "When the front members were at the dharna manch and on hunger strike, we gave deputations to Swasthya Bhavan. We have been part of the movement from the beginning."

PJDA secretary general, Rituparna Koyal, a doctor of SSKM, said, "The gang of Sandip Ghosh, that's accused of threatening doctors has formed the association." Shreesh Chakraborty, convener of WBJDA, said, "The front has fielded the PJDA to spread canards about us."
