CU MA students’ question: Am I among ‘missing 120’?

123 Kolkata: Calcutta University students, who had appeared for the Bengali masters first-semester exams in April, are worried whether theirs are among the 120 answer sheets that have gone missing.
One-hundred-and-twenty answer sheets, which were with three examiners, have been misplaced, leading to a delay in the publication of the results. Students claimed they had not yet been informed about the names of the candidates whose answer scripts had been missing. A Bengali MA student said, "It is disappointing that after the hard work, answer sheets were misplaced. I don't know whether I am among those affected or not. But even if I am not, I want those responsible to be punished so that such negligence is not repeated." Another student said, "The results have not been published even after six months. I am worried about my answer sheet, whether it's safe or not."
Assuring students of action against those responsible, CU interim vice-chancellor Santa Datta said they did not need to worry as the Syndicate took a decision for their benefit. The CU Syndicate on Tuesday decided to offer the candidates two options: accept the highest marks they secure in other papers as the lost Bengali paper's score or take a fresh test.
CUTA general secretary Sanatan Chottopadhyay said, "The university should take appropriate steps for students' benefits." Trinamool state general secretary Avirup Chakraborty said, "This is not a stray case. Students are worried as it impacts their grades and future. Academics urge swift action to protect the institute's integrity and students' rights."
