Kolkata: The Kolkata police arrested 17 persons for bursting crackers on the main roads that disrupted traffic movement. Cops claimed such complaints were being made after a gap of around five years.
In Kasba, a motorist complained that he had to brake at the last moment on RB Avenue a little after midnight when people began bursting crackers. Another biker claimed he was on a Kasba bylane when chocolate bombs were hurled at him. Near Hazra Crossing, an elderly person complained to the police after being disturbed by firecrackers from midnight. Allegedly, not only did he not receive any long-term resolution of the problem, but he was also reminded by a set of locals to "adjust for a night."
"It seems that with noise crackers being burst in much larger numbers this year after the 90-decibel cap got removed, these new problems cropped up. In several cases where we received complaints of this nature, chocolate bombs competed with shells, rockets, and tubris that were burst in the middle of the road," claimed an officer.
"While we received complaints of crackers being burst on main thoroughfares causing traffic disruption as well as raising a safety issue, we are yet to get any complaint where firecrackers were thrown towards moving vehicles or anyone being threatened," claimed an officer at Lalbazar.
