123 Kolkata: A few housing complexes in New Town have complained that daily garbage is not being collected for the last few days.
In Greenfield Heights, New Town, the garbage bins are overflowing. "The waste has not been collected for the last four days. Garbage collection has always been regular here. We informed NKDA about the matter last Friday but it has not been addressed yet," said Rajiv Mehra, a resident.
There were also complaints of garbage not being collected from Jal Vayu Towers in the township. "This is becoming a recurring problem. This has happened in the past as well. We urge the authorities to address the issue urgently," said a resident.
Another resident complained that on Sunday, he visited one of the NKDA markets where waste bins were overflowing with garbage. The place, he alleged, was stinking. Officials said that it could be a few isolated cases. "As per our knowledge, the daily waste collection system was on in a regular basis. The complaints will be looked into," said an NKDA official.
New Town presently generates around 85 tonnes of waste daily.
