Kolkata: Times NIE presented the Myopia Art Festival in association with Lawrence & Mayo at their city showroom on Oct 5. More than 100 students participated in the event to showcase their talent and creativity. This coincided with the launch of the Myopia clinic in the showroom.
The theme was Durga Maa, a form of ‘shakti', representing the victory of good over evil. The event also included a parents' counseling session on Myopia, a common eye condition among children. The art contest, a part of the fest, was held in two categories, including children from classes II to XII. An outlined picture of Ma Durga along with colours and brushes were provided to the participants.
The competition was held in three slots: 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
At the myopia clinic, the focus is on providing specialized care and attention to children between the ages of 6 to 18 who have been diagnosed with myopia. The clinic will also offer guidance on how to manage and control the progression of myopia without surgical intervention.
Certificates, trophies and gift hampers were presented to the winners along with the 10 best submissions from each group. While children took part in art fest, the guardians were educated on how to timely arrest myopia.
The festival not only provided a platform for students to express themselves, but also raised awareness about an important health issue. It was a successful event that brought together art, education and health.
