A private tutor has been arrested for allegedly molesting a girl who had gone to his home for tuition classes on Dakshinpara Road in Nagerbazar, police said.
The private tutor had to be rescued by a police team from the Barrackpore commissionerate late on Thursday as a large crowd had surrounded his house after the news of the alleged molestation spread in the area.
The tutor was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s family with the Nagerbazar police station, said a senior police officer.
The girl had been taking tuition classes for the past several months, said the officer.
On Thursday evening, she went to her tuition class as usual. After returning she told her mother that the teacher had molested her.
“The girl confided in her mother after returning home. She said she ran out of the house,” said the officer quoting the complaint lodged by the girl’s family members.
Later, a large group of men and women surrounded the tutor’s house. They knocked on the door and windows repeatedly asking him to come out, a police officer said.
The patrol team that was in the area reached the spot. The police spoke with the mob and managed to bring the accused out.
“He was taken to the police station immediately. He was arrested after the girl’s family filed the complaint,” said the officer.
Saha has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
One of the girl’s neighbours said she saw her crying while walking home.
“I asked her why she was crying but she did not answer. I followed her home to ensure her safety. What the tutor did was horrible,” said the woman.
