As Banerjee highlighted the traditions and culture of Bengal in her speech, she reiterated that Bengal is a state that embraces all religions. “Chhat Puja is held in many places of the state. Bengal has tradition, glory, and beauty. Everyone here considers the festivals of all religions as their own…Our government has given two days off for Chhat Puja, so that you can perform the Puja nicely,” she said.
People, irrespective of their religion, caste and creed, stay together in India and nobody is greater than the other, the Trinamool Congress supremo further said. “We don’t want division of religion. All religions have their meaning. We are not against any religion, we love all religions. Now in Bihar there is not as much Chhat Puja as there is in Bengal, please remember this,” she said.
Citing examples on how Bengal has been part of the freedom struggle, Mamata Banerjee said, “Many languages, cultures are different in India, yet we are Indians… tradition in Bengal has been there since independence… Bengal fought the most in the freedom struggle.”
