According to police sources, the autopsy report suggests that a substance was administered through the syringe, leading to the doctor’s death. “There is no sign of resistance. Primarily it seems like suicide,” an official said.
“We are conducting a detailed probe. Samples have been collected, and viscera sent for examination. So far, it doesn’t appear to be a case of murder,” another officer said.
Bhattacharya hailed from Kolkata and had returned to Jhargram after Puja holiday on Thursday. His family lost contact with him since then. Police sources revealed that the doctor had confided in his wife about personal tensions and had sent her a message before his death.
In response to the incident, a representative from the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front visited the doctor’s family and demanded a thorough investigation.
