12 Howrah: A former driver of a junior state minister, using a personal vehicle with ‘MLA' and ‘VIP' signs, was driving at breakneck speed on Howrah's Foreshore Road when he crashed into a trailer on Sunday, killing himself and two children travelling with him.
Mostaque Khan (25) used to drive this vehicle for minister Giasuddin Mollah until he bought it for his own use. Khan, a Kidderpore resident, was driving home from Howrah's Bankra, where he went to attend a function. He was driving back with relatives.
Cops said the vehicle was travelling at 125 kmph when it collided with the trailer's rear end. Mostaque and two children aged 11 and 12 were pronounced dead at hospital.
Basir Ali, a resident of Bichalighat near Foreshore Road, said he was woken up by the sound of the collision, followed by distressing cries. He saw two bodies partially hanging out of the vehicle before rescue efforts started.
Mostaque's father, Mohammad Mukhtar, said, "We are going to the hospital where my relatives have been taken."
