  • A day after a four-year-old boy went missing while playing outside his house, his body was recovered Sunday from a makeshift toilet near his home in Hooghly’s Guptipara.

The body of the child was reportedly spotted by his grandmother, although extensive police search using drones and dogs yielded no result on Saturday. The Hooghly rural police had also taken to social media to seek public assistance in locating the missing child.

Following the discovery of the body, the police arrested the grandfather, grandmother, and the aunt of the child. They alleged that there were inconsistencies in their statements. According to police sources, the relationship between the child’s parents and grandparents had soured for some time.

The body of the child was sent to the Chunchura Imambara Hospital for post-mortem.

Kalyan Sarkar, Additional Superintendent, Hooghly rural police, and other officials visited the family of the child.
