Principals’ meet focuses on future tech skills for better job options

12 Kolkata: The Principals' Meet 2024, was successfully organized by RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT) in association with the Times of India. The theme of the event was "Empowering Graduates with Future Tech Skills for Better Employability" based on a capacity building project funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), govt. of India and implemented by RCCIIT. The event brought together several dignitaries, industry experts, and academic leaders to discuss the necessity of equipping graduates with cutting-edge skills to enhance their employability in today's competitive market.
Anindita Ganguly, director of state technical education, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. She appreciated RCCIIT's initiative of providing free-of-cost practical training on in-demand technologies and called all the engineering colleges to leverage its benefits to the advantage of their students.
Anirban Mukherjee, principal of RCCIIT, detailed the speciality of the MeitY-sponsored courses, including their design by experts from IIT, ISI, industry and hands-on training by experts from TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, Lynx, JU along with in-house faculty experts. The free courses come with internship opportunity, job fairs, soft skill training, mock interviews to provide complete readiness for jobs. The certificates issued by MeitY have added values to the courses. Mukherjee mentioned that over 2,500 students across more than 200 colleges enrolled in different courses on cloud, python, web & mobile technology, drone, enterprise computing, deep learning.
Sayan Chatterjee, professor from ETCE department of Jadavpur University, also known for his significant contribution in imaging part in the Chandrayaan 3 mission of ISRO, highlighted the need of joint efforts between industry and academia in his keynote address.
Anirban Majumder, a partner of PwC, shared a presentation on application of generative AI in sustainable business models. His session underlined the importance of industry need based skilling of students in collaboration with the industry.
Sourav Saha, director of academics at Praxis Business School, spoke on how the academic programs must align with the changing demands of the industry. In the second part of the seminar the expert faculties of the MeitY project of RCCIIT showcased their course curriculum, industry applications and success stories of already trained and certified students. RCCIIT's efforts to promote a job-oriented training model resonated with the audience, inspiring confidence in the program's long-term sustainability.
