In the notice late Monday, the Kolkata traffic police invited “Rash Drivers”, “Drunk Drivers”, “Traffic Signal Violators”, “Without Helmet Bike Riders”, and “Other Eligible Violators” a “free entry” to the “special performance”. The event, the police said, is scheduled for “WHOLE Night” across the “KOLKATA POLICE AREA. The post concludes with a strong caution: “TRY NOT TO BE OUR GUESTS.”
This playful yet firm message aims to deter drivers from breaking traffic rules and emphasises the consequences of their actions. The creative approach has garnered significant attention online, with many praising the Kolkata police for their innovative and engaging public awareness campaign.
“The meme serves as a lighthearted reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential legal repercussions of violating traffic rules,” said a traffic police officer.
This notice has been circulated thousands of times and gone viral on social media.
This is not the first time the Kolkata Police have created posts to communicate important messages, and employed memes to raise awareness about crucial social issues, such as the importance of adhering to traffic rules.
During the pandemic, they utilised popular culture references, such as the Telugu film Pushpa, to warn citizens about potential scams. One memorable meme featured Allu Arjun’s iconic line, “Pushpa naam sunke fool samjha kya (Did you think I’m a fool just because my name is Pushpa)?”, highlighting the dangers of sharing personal banking information with unknown callers.
