Acting on the inputs provided by a key figure in a fake passport racket, who was recently arrested, a team of Kolkata Police officers from the Lalbazar intelligence branch raided the rented residence of a person named Dhiren Ghosh in Madanpur, Chakdaha late Tuesday night.
Police said Ghosh was in Italy since 2007 and had made arrangements for many people to go to Europe. “A huge number of documents, mostly identity cards, have been seized from his residence. We are investigating his role,” the senior officer said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar has urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to strengthen the passport verification and delivery system to prevent similar incidents in the future. — With PTI
