TagoreTech to set up 1st pvt radio frequency lab in Kol

12 Kolkata: In another positive for the state's hardware industry, Chicago-based TagoreTech is set to establish Kolkata's first private radio frequency (RF) laboratory. This comes in the wake of chip manufacturing giant GlobalFoundries's announcement to set up a centre in the state. TagoreTech was spun off a a separate RF entity from Tagore Technology just before GF took over the latter.
TagoreTech's Kolkata laboratory will work on the engineering validation of RF chips already being designed by the company at its Kolkata centre. The other RF laboratory in Kolkata is run by DRDO.
Manish Shah, chief technology officer, head of R&D, and co-founder of TagoreTech, said that the RF chips designed by the company have wide applications in defence. They are used in drones, radar and other application areas.
"Today, our R&D team is dedicated to developing innovative solutions leveraging wide bandgap technologies to address the RF design challenges of our customers and accelerate time-to-market for a wide range of applications, including military and public safety communications systems, radar, drones, jammers, and 5G cellular infrastructure," Shah added. He pointed out that the company had clients all over the world. "Chips designed in Kolkata and tested in the city will be fitted globally. The production may happen in Taiwan, but the basic design and engineering validation will be done here. Soon, we shall increase our headcount manifold at the Kolkata centre," he added.
