  • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday slammed officials over illegal accounts in the co-operative banks across various districts in the state and directed them to launch an investigation into the fake accounts and complete the probe within two months.

Banerjee, who chaired an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat, said, “Many co-operative banks have money as deposits in fake accounts. There the money is kept in another’s name. This unaccounted money should be recovered by investigating each one. This money will go to the state treasury. I know many co-operative banks that have unaccounted money.”

“During demonetisation, many fake accounts were opened in the name of Jan Dhan Yojana…. If a man is alive then physical verification will be done. I give two months time — January and February. Within that period the probe should be completed and all fake and illegal accounts should be identified.”

CM Banerjee also claimed that the state finance secretary is a gentleman, but almost all employees in his department are Left-minded and are not doing their work. “I know they are all sitting idle in the department. They should be identified and transferred. Take efficient employees in place of them,” Mamata Banerjee said.
