Kolkata: Cops intercepted a Santragachhi-bound bus near Vidyasagar Setu and detained a Patna resident after one of his co-passenger, a Salt Lake IT firm employee, dialled 100 around 11 pm on Friday and complained that the accused behaved inappropriately with her.
A police officer said that the co-passenger, 62-year-old Amar Yadav from Patna, was in Kolkata for business. Unable to read Bengali, He sat in a seat reserved for women. When the complainant, a female IT worker, boarded and asked him to vacate the seat, Amar refused, leading to a heated argument. The woman alleged that Amar used obscene language during the altercation.
Yadav, who was reportedly unwell, explained to cops that he sat due to his illness and couldn't read the ‘Ladies' sign. Yadav was released after he apologised to the woman.
