• Onus on cops to upload cyber plaints on nat’l portal

  • 123 Kolkata: The Lalbazar has made it mandatory for all police stations and cyber cells to upload cyber complaints on behalf of the complainants on the ‘National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal' for the quickest possible resolution. Lalbazar stated that training for this will be provided to select officers in these units. The primary aim of these trained officers will be to assist complainants to ensure they do not face any issues while filing a complaint on the central portal.

According to sources at Lalbazar, it is often observed that in cases of cybercrimes, even if the complainant loses money, they usually do not get it back. Filing a complaint on the central NCRP portal makes it easier to recover the money. For this reason, every police station and cyber station in Kolkata has been instructed to inform complainants that they must report the crime on the NCRP portal in addition to the police. The link to the NCRP portal will also be available on the Kolkata Police website, through which complaints can be filed.

"However, it is a technical task and it is advisable that cops themselves carry out these entries accurately. It usually takes 10-15 minutes even for cyber cell officers to upload the details at present," said an officer. An email and SMS will be received by the complainant along with a reference number.

Meanwhile, in cases of various types of cybercrimes on social media, complainants should take screenshots of any links or inappropriate posts. Along with this, the complainant's identification must also be submitted to the police.
