Cold winds return to city, Met predicts slight chill ahead

123 Kolkata: After surging past 16 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the mercury slipped to 14.2 degrees Celsius on Monday. While the mercury is expected to remain around the same mark on Tuesday, the Met said there is a possibility of the minimum temperature dipping slightly below the normal mark from Wednesday.
At 14.2 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature on Monday was 0.3 degrees above the normal mark, while the maximum temperature at 24.1 degrees was slightly below the normal mark.
Sources in the Met office said that a western disturbance over the northwestern region blocked the path of the cold northerly wind, pushing the mercury up in Kolkata and other parts. Now this system has passed, and the dry northerly wind has started breezing in, at a slow pace.
While many parts of Bengal battled fog in the morning on Monday, the Met sees no fog threat in south Bengal, while North Bengal will continue to experience dense fog on Tuesday.
The lowest temperature on Monday of 2.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Darjeeling, while in the plains, it was Purulia that recorded a minimum temperature of 10.1 degrees Celsius.
