  • 12 Midnapore/Kolkata: Services were normal at Midnapore Medical College & Hospital (MMCH) on Friday as the junior doctors decided to go for a partial cease-work and would attend to admitted patients. On Thursday night, they had announced a total cease-work from Friday 8 am, in protest against the suspension of 12 doctors following the death of a woman after C-section delivery.

Those not on duty would join the sit-in demonstration, the junior doctors said.

While rounds of deliberations were being held on the mode of protest by junior doctor representatives, the rest reported to work. Hospital officials said all services, including OPD and indoor services, including the gynaecology department, functioned normally since morning. It was a relief for patients who flocked to the medical college from far-away places.

Representatives of organisations, including the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF), Joint Platform of Doctors, Medical Service Centre, Service Doctors' Forum, and Nurses Unity, reached MMCH on Friday. All the organisations protested against the suspension of the 12 doctors. "There is no mention of any surgical complication in the autopsy report. The cause of death is septic shock," said Aniket Mahata of WBJDF.

Physician Biplab Chandra of Medical Service Centre called for a public movement.

While the new MSVP Indranil Sen joined on Thursday night, four faculty members joined the gynaecology department on Friday.
