  • Kolkata: The state health department will roll out prophylactic low dose aspirin for at-risk pregnant women from govt health facilities across the state. Sources said the decision was taken following an expert committee's recommendation, based on the positive results from the pilot study project.

Health officials said high-risk pregnancy could lead to pre-eclampsia and foetal growth restrictions, which could increase mortality. Medical officers of hospitals have been entrusted with the task of identifying high-risk pregnancies during antenatal check-ups. Such women will be administered low-dose aspirin. Civic and district health officials will monitor the implementation and adherence to the protocol. tnn
