  • 12 Kolkata: For those who missed the planetary parade in January, here's an opportunity to catch up with the celestial lineup. Nearly every night this Feb, it will be possible to witness the planetary parade of six planets in the sky.

Throughout most of the month, Jupiter and Venus will be bright in the night sky, with Mars and Saturn visible as fainter dots. Uranus and Neptune will be visible with only a fairly powerful telescope.

Viewed from above the solar system, the planets would appear clustered on one side of the sun. From Earth, the planets will be in an arched line — the ecliptic — the annual path the sun follows on the celestial sphere around Earth. What's special about this ‘planetary parade' is that the planets will be appearing above the horizon at night.

Reddish Mars will shine on the eastern horizon, in the constellation Gemini. Bright Jupiter will be positioned a little higher, in the constellation Taurus. The Waxing Gibbous Moon shines close to Jupiter in the constellation Aries, near the border with Taurus and Uranus.

The next three planets will be located closer to the western horizon. Neptune will be in the constellation Pisces. Yellowish Saturn in the constellation Aquarius and the bright ‘evening star' Venus will be easily visible in Pisces.

Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM) will arrange for live viewing of this Planetary Parade from Feb 28 onwards.

"When we organised the shows in Jan and Feb-beginning, the response was overwhelming. We could not accommodate many due to time constraints. Thus, we decided to revive the show from Feb 28 so that all interested, particularly students, get to view them," said BITM director in-charge Arnab Chatterjee.
