• Spoke to Romi till Tuesday 1.30am: Mom

  • Kolkata: An unease prevailed over two homes in Behala's Silpara and north Kolkata's Paikpara as its residents struggled to come to terms with what happened in Tangra on Tuesday. While Romi Dey's family lives in Silpara, Sudesna Dey's maternal house is in Paikpara.

Besides the loss of three lives, one of them being 14-year-old Priyamvada, a class IX student and a good badminton player, what has left them shocked is the manner in wh-ich the two brothers — Pranay and Prasun — conducted themselves in this entire incident. "If they had planned this for a week, I wonder what stopped them from seeking help," a relative said.

Romi's mother Chitra Banerjee said she spoke to Romi till 1.30 am on Feb 18. If the Dey brothers' account is true, her daughter had already eaten the pill-laced payesh. But Chitra found nothing amiss while talking to Romi. "I was free on Tuesday and wanted to ask about my granddaughter's exam. But I could not connect with them," she said.

Cops said they will be recording statements of some relatives soon. tnn
