EC to hold all-party meet on duplicate EPICs on Friday

123 Kolkata: EC will hold an all-party meeting at the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office on Friday on the issue of duplicate EPIC numbers. There were several complaints that voters in Bengal had the same EPIC number as those in other states, following which Trinamool Congress submitted a memorandum to the poll panel.
EC then directed CEOs to remove all duplicate EPIC numbers on a priority basis and issue new ones. "The new EPIC number will be printed on the front, and the old number will be on the back," an EC order said.
An official said that EC had cancelled 600 EPICs in Bengal with numbers matching voters in Assam, Haryana and Gujarat. The poll panel has now empowered the electoral registration officers to cancel EPICs with duplicate numbers.
